The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) began as an initiative of the Council for A Better Louisiana (CABL) in 1997. The Frost Foundation and the Foundation for the Mid South made the initial investments, and the Community Foundation of North Louisiana, Baton Rouge Area Foundation and Greater New Orleans Foundation have been instrumental in supporting LANO's development.

The LANO New Orleans field office was developed to be a resource collaborative for local nonprofits recovering from the hurricanes of 2005. A wide array of services are provided to nonprofits , including capacity building, trainings, advocacy and public policy assistance and technical assistance.

LANO in Shreveport

LANO's Shreveport staff provide high-quality training, technical assistance and community development services to the nonprofit community in Shreveport and throughout North Louisiana. Having an office in the north enables LANO to engage more fully in local communities and the nonprofit sector. Most importantly, we can now interact with our members more frequently.
Our oganizational development staff in Shreveport works to engage the communities in North Louisiana and support our members through trainings, technical assistance and the resource development.
The Shreveport office also supports the statewide efforts of LANO's many ongoing programs, including disaster preparedness and issues advocacy. LANO's Shreveport staff initiated the Community Leaders Program, helping to raise up the next generation of leaders to move the nonprofit sector forward.
