Community Solutions: Investing in What Works
What began in late 2007 as a way of focusing on poverty in the gubernatorial election is now the Community Solutions, an initiative of LANO that seeks to identify and invest in programs that work to reduce poverty.

LANO’s Community Solutions guides the connection, collaboration and convening of stakeholders and policy makers who are working to reduce poverty in Louisiana.

The purposes of the Institute are to educate, strengthen and empower Louisiana’s leaders, advocates, service providers and the nonprofit sector to lift vulnerable citizens from poverty to self-sufficiency, sustainability and prosperity.

The Community Solutions Institute identifies and supports the implementation of successful strategies and model programs that are research-based and help break the cycle of poverty in Louisiana.
Community Solutions identifies and works with other nonprofits, educational institutions, public agencies and for-profit businesses who share a common goal of eliminating poverty. Community Solutions is also examing programs currently in place around the country or in Louisiana that have proven, measurable results in helping to lift people out of poverty.
Two programs that Community Solutions is currently looking at replicating are the Nurse Family Partnership and the Harlem Children's Zone.
