On June 21, volunteers across the country will participate in the sixth annual United Way Day of Action.

Here in the Greater Baton Rouge area, the event, sponsored by ExxonMobil, will include hands-on projects to beautify Istrouma High School, health screenings, booksacks and books distributed by Capital Area United Way as well as kid-friendly activities. 

Participants include: Alliance Safety Council; ALS Association; American Diabetes Association; American Red Cross; AMI Kids; Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing; Bank on Baton Rouge; Big Buddy Program; Capital Area Agency on Aging; Capital Area United Way; Capital Area Asset Coalition; Catholic Charities; Entergy; Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge; Girl Scouts Louisiana East; Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank/Snap Coordinator; HOPE Ministries; Iris Domestic Violence Center; LA Care Mayor's Health Initiative; Mid City Redevelopment; Mental Health Association; Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center; St. Helena Head Start; Teach for America; The Salvation Army; Volunteers of America; and YWCA. 

SCHEDULE

  • 8:30 a.m. – Brick & mortar projects begin in and around Istrouma High School (cleaning, painting, etc.)
  • 12:30 p.m. – Lunch served to public, volunteers and staff in parking lot
  • 1:00 p.m. – Resource fair begins (includes many CAUW partner agencies and other collaborative partners)
  • 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – HIV, Audiology screenings in school classrooms
  • 2:00 p.m. – Presentation/Welcome/ExxonMobil sponsor remarks
  • 3:00 p.m. – Classes begin in school classrooms
  • 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Lady Tigers Women’s Basketball Team interact with children
  • 5:00 p.m. – Resource Fair closes/United Way Day of Action ends
