Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is a nonprofit association where members share knowledge and resources regarding all stages of a disaster – preparation, response, recovery, and mitigation – in order to build more resilient communities.

The Tri-State VOAD was established to develop a formal partnership between Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana that facilitates a collaborative approach to building the capacity of the VOAD’s along the Gulf Coast, utilizing current strategies and best practice to address the needs of communities in the area of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

David L. Myers: Mr. Myers is the Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships. Appointed by President Obama in 2009, Myers heads one of 13 such centers in the federal government under the White House Office of Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships.

Michael Hecht: Mr. Hecht is President & CEO of Greater New Orleans, Inc., the economic development organization for southeast Louisiana. GNO, Inc.'s mission falls broadly into two categories: business development – attracting and growing businesses – and product development – creating better business conditions. Under Michael's leadership, GNO, Inc. was recently named the #2 economic development organization in the United States by Business Facilities magazine. Before coming to GNO, Inc. Michael led the quarter-­‐billion dollar Katrina Small Business Recovery Program for the State of Louisiana. While with the State, Michael also established the $90 million Louisiana Revolving Loan Fund, the first of its kind in the nation.

Daniel Stoecker: Mr. Stoecker is President & CEO of National VOAD and works with and on behalf of members and partners to facilitate whole community collaborations to build resilient communities that better prepare for and respond to the recovery needs of the nation in times of disasters. In the emergency services field, Daniel served as a member of and helped establish local VOADs and Long Term Recovery Committees. He previously managed large scale disaster response and recovery efforts, for such events as Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, and the Gulf Oil Spill. Daniel has been invited to speak at conferences and other venues as an expert presenter on such subjects as Cultural Competency, Disaster Case Management, Mass Care, and more recently on the promise of the VOAD Movement as an emerging American institution that delivers a means to strengthen a community’s relationship network to better address disaster challenges and build resiliency.
