On May 3, 2014, the Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge (MHA) will again host our successful Beat the Odds Casino Night & Silent Auction.

This event will be held at the Capitol Park Welcome Center in downtown Baton Rouge. Attendees will enjoy an evening at the gaming tables (with play money, of course), food, cocktails, music, and a silent auction. There will also be prizes for the top three winners at the tables.

How does this relate to mental health?

The odds of you being diagnosed with a mental illness are, unfortunately, much higher than many of the games featured at this event. Statistics show 1 in 4 adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year.

MHA’s mission is to provide services for persons with or at risk for mental illness and substance abuse in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Your support of this event will enable the Mental Health Association of Greater Baton Rouge to: Continue to provide critical programs and services.

Yearly, MHA provided 4,500 individuals with mental illness and substance abuse issues with services through the following:

  • Alliance House Drop In Center, a day program for adults with chronic mental illness
  • Alliance House Residential Center, a transitional living facility for individuals with substance abuse
  • BRIDGES, support groups and educational classes for adults with mental illness
  • Act as a referral service directing community members with questions on mental illness and substance abuse to the proper partner agency
  • Provide advocacy and education events to help decrease the stigma associated with mental illness
