On Friday, August 11, the greater Baton Rouge area was hit by what experts call a 1,000 year flood. In total, 7.1-trillion gallons of rain fell on the area in just four days. BREC immediately sprang into action serving the community through shelters, emergency camps, mobile recreation vehicles, relief supplies and much more. Normally, park systems are an afterthought for the media during an event of this kind, but you will learn how our quick reaction on social media, and their thirst for pictures put us in the news cycle from day one.
