8:20-9:20 a.m. Developing a marketing plan for any budget, by Chad Brewer, Tara Brown and Chelsea Borruano with BREC

Not sure how to leverage a small marketing budget? By being creative, analyzing the media and trends, researching your demographics and planning ahead, marketing and advertising can be successfully achieved, even on a shoestring budget. In this presentation, learn how to create comprehensive plan that will maximize your budget, take advantage of free opportunities and convince your boss to invest in your efforts.


9:20-10:20 Disaster Recovery: How to get covered when you aren’t on the front lines, by Cheryl Michelet with BREC

On Friday, August 11, the greater Baton Rouge area was hit by what experts call a 1,000 year flood. In total, 7.1-trillion gallons of rain fell on the area in just four days. BREC immediately sprang into action serving the community through shelters, emergency camps, mobile recreation vehicles, relief supplies and much more. Normally, park systems are an afterthought for the media during an event of this kind, but you will learn how our quick reaction on social media, and their thirst for pictures put us in the news cycle from day one.

Learn how the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society runs their social media, fundraising events, and marketing campaigns with no paid staff! They’ll show you how to get your volunteers and board members to assist with your organization’s marketing efforts.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, tumblr, Google+, Youtube – just to name a few. What are some of the key methods for engaging an audience that uses their smart phone as a lifeline? Learn about writing, use of images, hashtags and timeliness for creating the most engaging posts to captivate your audience.
