Nonprofit association channels business and government resources to Louisiana charities with new win/win marketing initiatives
Three statewide partnerships initiated by the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations highlight the power of social networks to bridge gaps between public and private sectors. State government, along with industry leaders in banking, healthcare, and information services will connect directly this year with Louisiana's online network of over eleven thousand nonprofit professionals and volunteers.
The new partnerships follow a 2011 reorganization in which LANO opened its membership to corporate and government entities that seek to reach and assist the nonprofit sector.
Louisiana-based Business First Bank, founded by former Governor Buddy Roemer, was among LANO's first Associate Members. Leveraging the Association's nonprofit sector connections and member-to-member communications network, Business First recently purchased exclusive access codes to the premier national grantmaker database, Foundation Directory Online. The bank now offers the database free of charge to its nonprofit clients, along with a range of new banking services tailored exclusively to the needs of the nonprofit sector.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, also a LANO member, renewed in January its annual contract with information services company CausePlanet to provide Louisiana nonprofits free access to a database of business management book summaries and monthly live author interviews, both delivered exclusively through LANO's online network.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor's Volunteer Louisiana Commission joined LANO last year and in December contracted with the Association to configure its database to capture volunteer interest and organizational needs through its member profiles. Starting January, 2013, LANO's thousands of website users can search for volunteer opportunities within the network and advertise their willingness to serve in their communities.LANO's General and Associate membership increased by 30% in 2012 and added an average of 100 new member profiles each month. LANO welcomes public sector agencies and private sector consultants, product and service providers in numerous fields who wish to engage with Louisiana nonprofits in a cooperative exchange of value.
