"Pull Together Louisiana" funds a statewide platform for nonprofit support and multi-sector partnerships; Former Gov. Buddy Roemer to serve as Honorary Campaign Chair.
BATON ROUGE—The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, LANO, a 501(c)3 provider of professional training, organizational development and networking opportunity to nonprofits, announces the launch of a six-week campaign to rally support for its mission from businesses and philanthropic investors.
The business case for investment in LANO's Pull Together Louisiana campaign is endorsed by Honorary Campaign Chair, Charles "Buddy" Roemer III, former State Governor and founder of Business First Bank.
Noting the bank's membership, Roemer highlights LANO’s unique role among state organizations as a "nexus for mutual support" between nonprofits, corporations, public agencies and Louisiana citizens.
"LANO does more than represent hundreds of important charities," said Roemer. "LANO improves their capacity to serve us and connects them to partners in the business community and beyond in ways that benefit all parties."
Roemer and LANO emphasize the importance of a strong nonprofit sector to the wellbeing of Louisiana citizens and the state's economy. Louisiana's more than twenty thousand nonprofits serve millions of Louisianans each year and employ more than 130,000 workers whose jobs benefit local communities.
"The bottom line [for stronger nonprofits] is a better state," said Roemer in recent remarks to fellow corporate leaders, "and that helps your bottom line."
Downward trends in public and private funding of nonprofits, plus a lack of professional development and affordable business services present serious hurdles to mission success. Also damaging, says LANO, are the sector's insufficient partnerships and resources to make lasting change, problems a statewide network is uniquely positioned to address.
"Pull Together Louisiana is about everyone's interest in a sustainable nonprofit sector," said LANO President and CEO, Ann S. Williamson. "Charities' traditional avenues of support cannot maintain, much less grow, the sector's service delivery in a time of expanding need." Through in-person training, networking and online tools, said Williamson, LANO provides a unique platform for connecting nonprofits to their essential resources: management expertise, new donors and sponsors, and qualified staff and volunteers.
LANO's membership of more than 11,700 includes registered 501(c) charities, local and statewide businesses, government agencies, academic institutions and thousands of private individuals.
