Civic Engagement and Policy Director, Ashley Herad, posted the last of LANO's weekly legislative updates for the 2011 Session in a wrap up edition available online to all Association Members and Friends.
Today's post details the significant development of Rep. Walt Leger's (D-Dist. 91) voluntary deferment of proposed constitutional amendments that would have significantly impacted the tax exempt status of New Orleans nonprofits.
Rep. Leger later introduced a resolution that calls for more study on this issue and specifically invites input from area nonprofits, LANO first among those listed.
The 2011 Session Wrap Up includes additional summary information from The Better Choices for a Better Louisiana Coalition, the Louisiana Budget Project, the Council for a Better Louisiana and the Public Affairs Research Council, as well as links to seven major city newspaper Session summaries.
