Like many in the business sector, nonprofit professionals seek clarity about the future of healthcare, health insurance, and how the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will affect their organizations and employees.
In partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, LANO will hold a breakfast meeting and informational seminar on this topic on July 19, from 8:00-9:30 AM at the 5525 Reitz Avenue campus of BCBSLA.The event will take place at the Customer Service Center in rooms 2A and 2B.
A presentation titled, "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Effects on the Louisiana Healthcare Marketplace," will be led by healthcare economist Michael Bertaut of BCBSLA.*
Bertaut will explain the three main objectives of the new federal healthcare law, including how likely they are to be achieved and what their combined impact is likely to be on the Louisiana healthcare and health insurance marketplace.
This event is free to LANO members and $10 for the general public. Breakfast is included for all participants. Online registration is available at http://www.lano.org/event/healthcarereform
According to LANO’s2010 Report of Louisiana Nonprofits Wages and Benefits, more than 60% of organizations saw healthcare costs increase last year. Roughly a third raised the employer contribution accordingly, but nearly 20% had to pass increased healthcare expenses to their employees. Only 70% of state nonprofits report providing group health insurance to full time employees, and only 10% provide coverage to part time workers.
