LANO Public Policy Institute Partners with Family Impact Seminar, Releases Joint Agenda

The second annual LANO Public Policy Institute will be held in Baton Rouge, March 8-9, in conjunction with the Louisiana Family Impact Seminar, a national model educational series organized locally by the Louisiana Child Poverty Prevention Council and the LSU School of Social Work.

The collaboration with this year's Public Policy Institute, which is sponsored by The Foundation for Louisiana, supports the shared focus of both gatherings around issues including Payday Lending, anti-poverty initiatives and effective public advocacy.

The Family Impact Seminars promote research-based family policy by connecting state lawmakers with members of the research community. They provide nonpartisan, solution-oriented research with a family impact perspective on topics debated in state legislatures. The traditional format of the seminars consists of 2-3 presentations given by a panel of premier researchers, program directors, and policy analysts.

LANO's Public Policy Institute is designed to share knowledge with nonprofit professionals about important issues facing our state, increase awareness of opportunities to improve the lives of Louisiana's most vulnerable citizens, and to equip organizations with the tools needed to be powerful advocates for their causes. This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Kirby Goidel, Director of Public Policy Research at the Reilly Center for Media and Public Affairs at LSU.

The paired events will run consecutively at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge on Thursday and Friday, March 8-9. The fee for LANO's Public Policy Institute is $25 for LANO members and $75 for the general public.

The Family Impact Seminar, scheduled from noon to 4:00 PM on Friday, will be free and open to the public.

LANO thanks The Foundation for Louisiana and the Louisiana State Museum for generously supporting this important policy event.

Online registration, a presentation schedule and list of speaker bios are available at http://www.lano.org/event/policyinstitute2012. For more information, contact Ashley Herad, Civic Engagement and Policy Director, at ashley@lano.org or 225.929.5266 ext.222
