In addition, Volunteer Louisiana assists nonprofits in staffing important roles through the national AmeriCorps VISTA program:
Every year, Volunteer Louisiana places capacity-building VISTAs in nonprofits, faith-based organizations and public entities throughout the state. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed to fight poverty. It was founded in 1964 and was incorporated in AmeriCorps Service programs in 1993.
Also available through Volunteer Louisiana, the Cities of Service program finds the best strategies to tackle urgent needs in the community and develops comprehensive strategies through high-impact volunteer strategies. Becoming a City of Service will bring national attention to your city as well as highlight your city’s commitment to service.
During these difficult economic times, we find a greater need to unite the efforts of area nonprofits and other organizations which utilize volunteers with the resources of local government. Cities of Service is a way of establishing this relationship.
