LANO is seeking young professionals and civic leaders who are enthusiastic and inspired to serve their community in a leadership capacity.
Thirty individuals in each region will be selected to take part in the 5-part series of workshops devoted to key fundamentals of board service. Each community leader who completes this training will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to be effective and engaged board members. Deadline for applications is August 22nd!

Change Fund: Real Time Fund Development-
Fundraising is an integral component of board leadership. In an attempt to simulate board leadership responsibilities, Community Leaders are asked to participate in a real-time fundraising experience which involves the investment of a personal donation of $150 and a minimum of $150 to be raised by the participant.
RFP's will be released in each area and Community Leaders, acting as a committee are tasked with reviewing and selecting a grantee to be the beneficiary of the Change Fund. The Community Leaders as a whole are challenged to raise $10,000 or more for this grantee.
Placement on Nonprofit Boards-
At the conclusion of the training program, LANO facilitates matching of Community Leaders to area nonprofit organizations for placement on Boards of Directors or committees.
Eleven years ago, The Community Foundation, Capital One Bank, and LANO began a collaborative partnership to improve and strengthen nonprofit governance while increasing a legacy of civic engagement and philanthropy for our surrounding communities. Our nonprofit leadership landscape was aging and it lacked diversity of race and skill set. Our community, like all others, had a tendency to recycle the same group of leaders for nonprofit board service. There was a shrinking pool of what many felt were “knowledgeable seasoned leaders” who sat on multiple boards and were tapped out with their time and resources. Nonprofit executives were asking for help to address these issues and more
Today we have a diverse pool of educated and creative young professionals serving on nonprofit boards throughout the surrounding area. They are board presidents, finance chairs, committee chairs, and some of the best fundraisers in our community. Through education, hands on experience, and exposure to nonprofit issues, they begin their board service with confidence and clarity about what it means to serve on a nonprofit board. They do not fill seats; they are engaged in being good stewards of some of our community’s most treasured resources, the nonprofit sector.
