Nominate a Young Hero Today!

Posted By Katelyn Smith, Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, Thursday, February 8, 2018
A Young Hero can be defined in many ways, but to those who know them they are exceptional students who devote their time, talents, and energy to make a difference!

Now in its 23rd year, the LPB Louisiana Young Hero Awards, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge, annually honors students in grades 7-12 who excel in the classroom, serve their local communities, and sometimes demonstrate great personal courage in overcoming adversity.

Nominations are now being accepted for our 2018 Louisiana Young Heroes (Click here to nominate.)! Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school (public, private or parochial) or home-schooled, and cannot be older than 19 years of age. Nomination forms can be downloaded and filled out or submitted through the online form at lpb.org/heroes.

Letters of recognition, newspaper articles, and other supporting materials should be sent to support the nomination. The selection panel relies solely on the material submitted with the application, to learn about each student. (A maximum of ten pages please – no transcripts, text scores, or binders.) Students who have been nominated in past years who meet the criteria may be re-nominated for this year’s awards. Previous winners are not eligible.

EXTENDED: The deadline for entries is February 12, 2018. Winners will be announced on LPB’s weekly news and public affairs program Louisiana the State We’re In, on the Louisiana Young Heroes Facebook page, and at lpb.org. Louisiana Young Heroes Day will be April 9, 2018. (Dates subject to change.)

The Young Heroes will be treated to a day full of activities including breakfast at LPB’s studios, lunch at the Governor’s Mansion, and a number of surprises. The day will culminate with a banquet that night in Baton Rouge.

The awards are co-presented by the Baton Rouge Rotary Club. For more information, call Margaret Schlaudecker at 225-767-4276 or email heroes@lpb.org.
