Baton Rouge- The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) today announced an award of $8,049.26 to the YWCA of Baton Rouge as part of the Change Fund Grant provided by the LANO Community Leaders class of 2015.  This grant will go to fund the YWCA RISE program in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

The LANO Community Leaders Baton Rouge annual program is a series of workshops that trains 30 individuals the fundamentals of board service.  “The LANO Community Leaders program is a resource for community minded advocates serving or interested in serving on nonprofit boards.  Community Leaders are trained in board governance, financial management and fundraising – applying best practice to their roles as board members.  Our 2015 class worked diligently to promote the YWCA program and to raise money for a significant program in the Baton Rouge area,” said Kelly Pepper, President of LANO.

Participants in the Community Leaders training are challenged to raise $300 for the interactive fundraising component, The Change Fund, housed by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF). A request for proposals from local nonprofits is announced annually and Community Leaders review and vote on an organization to be the recipient of The Change Fund.

The YWCA RISE (Reaching Impacting Strengthening & Empowering Women in the Fight Against HIV) program educates citizens on appropriate lifestyle choices and sexual responsibility through community outreach, free HIV testing, prevention and early detection, free supplies, and free pre-and post-counseling to all tested individuals.  In the Baton Rouge community, statistics reveal that a large percentage of new HIV cases occur among adolescents and young adults.  Given this fact, the YWCA not only provides connections for HIV testing, but also early intervention efforts for teen girls through its SIHLE (Sisters Informing Healing Living & Empowering) program. If you are interested in receiving more information about the RISE program, please contact the YWCA Office at 225.383.0681 or visit the website at www.ywca-br.org.

Applications for the 2016 LANO Community Leaders class are now being accepted. Find more information about the program at http://www.lano.org/page/commleadbr.

The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) is a member based nonprofit organization who strives to be the go-to source for Louisiana’s nonprofit organizations by providing high quality information, tools, resources and member benefits that deepen the impact of Louisiana nonprofits.

Change Brings New Opportunities at LANO

Posted By Kelly Pepper, Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, Friday, July 31, 2015

Dear Friends,

As a nonprofit leader it can be challenging to find really exceptional people to fill positions within your organization. At LANO we consider ourselves very lucky to have had amazing people throughout these sixteen years do outstanding work on behalf of the nonprofit sector in Louisiana.

It’s important that we support great talent to find or create new opportunity – it only strengths our community.  And we are very excited that our LANO team member Fairleigh Cook Jackson (Director of Member Services) has accepted the Executive Director position with LANO member organization Foundation for Historical Louisiana.

With this announcement comes an opportunity to reshape LANO to further meet the needs of our members. We have completed a strategic restructuring and are adding the full time position of Business Development Manager and part time position of Operations Manager to support our members and the Director of Member Services.

If you know of anyone who might be a great addition to our team, please encourage them to look at the LANO Career Center for more information.

Sincerely,

Kelly Pepper, President & CEO
