NCCAN in New Orleans and Seeking Volunteers

Posted By Susan Shaffette, Team Dynamics LLC, Monday, February 17, 2014

The 19th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect is the nation’s premier training and technical assistance event for the child maltreatment field.  Check back frequently for updates on the exciting educational and networking opportunities that are part of this biannual event. The event will be on April 30th to May 2nd. It is in Jazz Fest time, so there will be some issues finding hotels if you are coming from outside New Orleans or commuting distance. It is being held at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans on the corner of Loyola and Poydras.

Conference Cost

There is no registration fee to attend the Conference.

Volunteering

The Louisiana Host Team is a collaborative group of volunteers from many sectors who are working to develop the volunteer teams needed for a major conference. We are seeking more volunteers to help us - primarily with the moderating roles. Do you want to hear national speakers on key issues impacting children and families? If you do, we need you! You can sign up at www.latwc.com. There are over 1400 registrations for the conference already – we need our Louisiana folks to help us with manpower.

Questions?

Please call Susan Delle Shaffette at 985-624-3514 or send an email to susan@teamdynamicsweb.com

Help Find a Viable Path for Housing Preservation in New Orleans

Posted By Julius Kimbrough, Crescent City CLT, Inc., Wednesday, January 29, 2014

What do you know about Community Land Trusts as an instrument of affordable housing finance?

Come ask a question, share your knowledge and listen to what is possible as we all continue the work of creating affordable housing in our community!

PANEL DISCUSSION

TITLE: Community Land Trusts: A Viable Path for Housing Preservation in New Orleans

WHEN: February 12, 2014 8:30 am

WHERE: Dillard University

WHO: Van Temple, Executive Director, Crescent City Community Land Trust; Nancy Stangle, Emierita Director, Athens Land Trust; Beth Sorce, Community & Capacity Building Manager, National CLT Network; John Debreuil, Attorney and Board Member, Northshore Housing Initiative

ABOUT: With recovery in New Orleans continuing at a rapid pace, maintaining a viable stock of affordable housing for our working class residents is becoming harder and harder due to the rising costs of renting and buying a home. Community land trusts have been successfully implemented in other cities across the country as a method to combat this problem. However, CLTs are just getting off the ground in New Orleans and many of real estate professionals are unfamiliar with the specifics of how they will work here.
