Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana would like to invite you to a special, free, Child Abuse Prevention Month event to be held at the American Legion Hall in Baton Rouge on April 14from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. PCAL is partnering with the Team Tootles Foundation to host “Connect the Dots: From Prevention to Survival of Child Sexual Abuse.” Speakers include Erin Merryn, a nationally-known child advocate and survivor of sexual abuse, as well as local survivors Shona Butler Chavis and Jody Plauche. You may remember Jody’s story. He is from Baton Rouge and was abducted by his karate teacher. When the teacher was returned to Baton Rouge in 1984 Jody’s father, Gary, shot and killed the teacher in the Baton Rouge airport.

The event will be moderated by Whitney Vann. After the survivors tell their stories, we’ll wrap up with a panel discussion on the prevention of child sexual abuse.

This is a free event that includes CEUs for social workers, LPCs, and teachers! You can register to attend here. We know that, like us, you recognize the importance of keeping kids safe from sexual abuse. We hope that you will join us and invite your colleagues, networks, and parents that you know to hear this important prevention message. I’m attaching a flyer that you can post and share.

What a wonderful opportunity for us all to band together to ensure that Louisiana children grow up happy and healthy! We look forward to seeing you there!
