Join us for CausePlanet's popular author interview series, October 3, when we'll be at LANO's 15th Anniversary Annual Conference with La Piana Consulting's, Heather Gowdy, coauthor of "The Nonprofit Business Plan: The Leader's Guide to Creating a Successful Business Model."

Heather Gowdy, MBA, brings experience in both the private and nonprofit sectors to her work as a Senior Manager for La Piana Consulting. She has worked with nonprofits as a volunteer, staff member, consultant, trainer, and board member. As a consultant, her work has focused on organizational analysis and structure, business plan development, strategic planning, strategic restructuring, and management information systems design and implementation.

Heather played a lead role in designing and implementing La Piana's Strategic Solutions Project, a foundation-funded initiative aimed at increasing the awareness of the nonprofit sector of the potential value of strategic restructuring activities, such as mergers, joint ventures, and administrative consolidations. Heather served as Strategic Solutions’ Project Manager for its first three years, conducting research; writing case studies and articles; designing and leading training sessions for consultants, nonprofits, and funders; facilitating negotiations between nonprofit organizations; and co-authoring The Nonprofit Mergers Workbook, Part II: Unifying the Organization after a Merger (2004).

Heather received her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where she concentrated on nonprofit management.

  • "I can't believe I had to wait until 2012 to experience a format where authors can cut to the chase and answer live questions from readers. So much fun. Thanks for inviting me to do this. You will see me on future calls.” (Christopher Kush, Author of The One-Hour Activist and CEO of Soapbox Consulting)
  • "Over the years, I've attended quite a few webinars. This CausePlanet author interview was superior. I am long an admirer of the work of Kay Sprinkel Grace. I'm from New Orleans and have seen her speak live several times. I know of the program that she spoke about. This was excellent. Many thanks for a great webinar!” (Julie Condy, Executive Director/Founder, Stage to Stage, Inc.)
  • "It was very helpful! It was practical and immediately useful. Can't think of a way to improve it. Thank you.” (Sue Brown, Executive Director, Teaching Responsible Earth Education)
  • "Great information - enjoyed the author comments. Like the ability to answer real questions. Keep the same format! Very informative, I enjoyed hearing the different scenarios and approaches.” (Susan Shaffette, President/CEO, Team Dynamics)
