STAR is offering this continuing education workshop to social workers to increase knowledge of sexual trauma. Space is limited. Each participant must register separately.

This Sexual Trauma 101 Workshop will explore the definitions, dynamics and consequences of sexual trauma, and help practitioners understand their role in preventing and intervening in sexual violence.





Rebecca Marchiafava, MPP

Director of Prevention, STAR


Originally from Baton Rouge, Rebecca Marchiafava earned a B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies from Louisiana State University in 2005. More recently, in 2012, she earned a Master of Public Policy in Education from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College.


Having previously worked as a classroom teacher and in school operations, Rebecca is passionate about supporting educators and other youth-service professionals in their important work of developing healthy individuals and healthy communities. She is also passionate about engaging youth and men as both leaders and allies in the work of sexual trauma prevention.


Within her role as Director of Prevention for STAR, Rebecca and her team engage, educate, and collaborate with many community partners to envision and work toward a community free from oppression and sexual trauma.


Rebecca is a trained facilitator of the following education programs with youth: Careageous Kids; Teaching Respect, Understanding, Safety and Tolerance (TRUST); and Safe Dates. Additionally, Rebecca is an authorized facilitator of the national Darkness to Light Stewards of Children program, which trains adults on ways to prevent, recognize and react to child abuse. She also facilitates STAR’s educational workshops for adults: "Sexual Trauma 101” and "Changing Culture: Building a Community Free from Sexual Trauma
