Volunteer Program Management Training Series

This training series is hosted by DOVIA New Orleans. The Volunteer Program Management Training is a six-part training series. It will be presented one day a week for three weeks. Each day will include two sessions. You can register for the full series or for your choice of individual sessions.

This series was developed by the Points of Light Foundation and is a high-quality, comprehensive set of courses in volunteer management. Emphasis will be placed on learning the steps to successful volunteer program development; developing volunteer recruitment and supervision skills; and planning ways to improve existing volunteer programs.

About the presenter: Nicholas Auck joined the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in May 2010 as Director of Volunteer Outreach. He administers several programs including the Cities of Service initiative to develop partnerships between municipal governments and nonprofits and the Volunteer Generation Fund which provides funding for volunteer and volunteer opportunity registration and promotion of National Days of Service as well as the general promotion of volunteerism throughout the state. He is currently the President of the Louisiana Association of Volunteer Center Directors (LAVCD) and is the representative on the United Way 211 Coordinating Council which coordinates the five active 211 organizations around the state. Prior to joining the Volunteer Louisiana Commission, Nick was most recently an Exercise Officer with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and served as the Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) as an extra duty assignment since 2006. He has assisted the Louisiana Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (LAVOAD) integrate their emergency plans into the State Emergency Operations Plan. Currently, he holds certification by the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association (LEPA) as an Emergency Manager, Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP) & a Continuity of Operations Practitioner through the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and is accredited as a Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). During his service in the Governor’s Office of Rural Develop and GOHSEP he has worked with legislative delegations, local elected officials, state & federal agencies and nonprofit organizations on a number of initiatives: ס In 2006, he chaired the committee of LAVOAD, GOHSEP and State Agencies that developed the current donations & volunteer management plan. ס Reestablished the State Citizen Corps Council with representatives from the nine GOHSEP Regions, state agencies and a representative from LAVOAD. The state council administers a grant program to local Citizen Corps Councils and hosts a state conference and CERT Rodeo annually. ס And was a member of the United Way 211 Coordinating Council which developed a unified telephonic system to receive and distribute emergency information to the public. In Nick’s free time, he is the administrator for the Louisiana DeMolay State Association for youth and volunteers through the Masonic Fraternity in several programs.
