Points of Light Volunteer Program Management Training

The six-part training series on volunteer program management was developed by the Points of Light Foundation. The training covers many topics that the leaders of volunteers need to accomplish their work in the field. Sign up for the 6-part Points of Light training at a super discount rate in gratitude for sharing your time and talents! $75 for members/non-members! The Volunteer Program Management Training is a six-part training series. It will be presented one day a week for three weeks. Each day will include two sessions. You can register for the full series or for your choice of individual sessions. 

 This series was developed by the Points of Light Foundation and is a high-quality, comprehensive set of courses in volunteer management. Emphasis will be placed on learning the steps to successful volunteer program development; developing volunteer recruitment and supervision skills; and planning ways to improve existing volunteer programs.

Member Rate:  $30 per section or $125 for full series
Non-Member Rate: $45 per section or $200 for full series
There will be a lunch break - lunch is on your own. You may stay in the room if you bring your lunch or go out. 

Course 1: Understanding Volunteering-volunteer trends in the U.S.; characteristics of effective volunteer programs; and volunteer motivation models.

Course 2: Planning a Volunteer Program-conducting basic needs assessments; creating volunteer position descriptions; and developing a purpose statement, policies and budget.

Course 3: Recruiting and Placing Volunteers-developing volunteer recruitment strategies and messages; accessing underutilized volunteers; and interviewing volunteers for optimal placement.

Course 4: Orienting and Training Volunteers-identifying training needs; building a training session; and effective training delivery.

Course 5: Supervising Volunteers-defining and communicating expectations; supervising and recognizing people with different motivations; and developing a recognition plan.

Course 6: Evaluating a Volunteer Program-deciding what to evaluate; assessing volunteer satisfaction, management and outcomes; and using evaluation information.

The six sessions are offered over 3 weeks with 2 courses presented per day. The upcoming dates are April 7, 14, and 21. It will be presented by Nicholas Auck, Director of Volunteer Outreach, Volunteer Louisiana (Lt. Governor's Office).
