The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is working closely with our state and local partners, as well as Louisiana's many voluntary organizations, to help individuals, businesses and communities recover from the damaging effects of Hurricane Isaac.

Within eight days of the Aug. 29 major disaster declaration, more than $16 million in grants had been approved to help homeowners and renters begin to recover from the storm. Many more millions of dollars in assistance will go to Louisianians as we progress with the recovery effort.

Private sector organizations play a key role before, during and after a disaster, and private sector resiliency and recovery is a central component in a community's recovery. The FEMA specialists delivering assistance to hurricane survivors in the affected parishes — including perhaps many of your own employees — would like your help in disseminating information and guidance to your workers, colleagues and others.

Please help us spread the word that businesses and individuals in disaster-designated parishes should register with FEMA if they sustained damage to their business, home or personal property.

They may register online at, smart phone at, or at 1-800-621-3362or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. Those who use 711 Relay or Video Relay Services may call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
