Promising Practices for Promoting High School Graduation, a new issue brief released by the Promising Practices Network, summarizes research-based approaches for improving high school graduation rates.

This brief, prepared with support by a grant from The Community Foundation of North Louisiana, reviews the importance of graduating from high school; discusses recent trends in high school graduation rates; and presents strategies for promoting high school graduation.

One approach cited in the research as improving high school graduation is "high-quality intensive early education programs for young children." According to the study, programs that promote school readiness generate positive outcomes across students' educational careers.

The brief also discusses disagreements among alternative measures of high school graduation, as well as progress made in implementing a standardized approach to measuring graduation rates in the United States.

The Promising Practices Network (PPN) is a project of the RAND Corporation dedicated to providing quality evidence-based information about what works to improve the lives of children, youth, and families.
