A new policy blog covering state and federal issues concerning nonprofits is now available by subscription to LANO Members and Friends through the Association's website.

Access LANO Public Policy Updates by signing in to and clicking on the Policy and Advocacy button at the left of the page.

Registered site users will be able to view and subscribe to the blog, created to inform on urgent and ongoing issues related to legislative action important to Louisiana's nonprofit sector.

In the current update, read about the Nonprofit Property Tax Exemption Study, an initiative of the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs to examine the impact of the homestead exemption, nonprofit exemption, and other property tax exemptions on local government revenues.

The study resolution was introduced as a substitute for three proposed constitutional amendments that threatened the tax exempt status for nonprofits in New Orleans and potentially statewide.  LANO's swift action and testimony, in concert with local nonprofits, successfully deterred passage of these bills in the 2011 Legislative Session.

Also in the current update: The American Jobs Act; Nonprofit Postal Rates at Risk; IRS Cellphone Regulations for Nonprofits, and more.

The LANO Public Policy Update is authored by Civic Engagement and Policy Director, Ashley Herad, and supported by donations and the LANO membership.
