LANO has been providing the Louisiana Green Corps (Green Corps) with the tools it needs to increase the number of students it trains for green jobs in the New Orleans area.

Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, is sponsoring the work. The support for the Green Corps is designed to double their yearly trainees.

The mission of the Green Corps is to provide green job skills training to unemployed, under-employed, court involved or otherwise disadvantaged youth, ages 17 to 24, through the completion of environmental restoration and conservation projects.

The Green Corps formed in 2008 as a collaboration between the ARC of Greater New Orleans, the Alliance for Affordable Energy and the Old City Building Center.

The Green Corps is now an independent nonprofit organization. LANO provides consulting services that help the Green Corps develop the governance tools it needs to operate at a high level. Many of these tools are available in LANO's nonprofit start up toolkit, which includes editable templates for board recruitment, among other items.

The consulting services provided to this point have included training on board roles and responsibilities and fund development. Part of this work was paid for by a previous Green Corps investment in itself.

The Accenture project began with an organizational assessment, which identified gaps and next steps for organizational development. In addition the Green Corps is leveraging volunteer service from Accenture employees to strengthen its information technology and evaluation systems.

For more information about this project, the nonprofit start up toolkit, and other organizational development services, contact Dr. Cory Sparks, Director of LANO New Orleans.
